They say that a dog is for life, not just for Christmas and the same might be said of a cat.
Now, we’re not suggesting that we’re not fond of a feline friend, but there are considerations – some of which may not sit well with those of us who love a litter tray-free, fluff-free, scratchy-claws free interior.
So if there is a small person in your family clamouring for a fluffball friend to feed, stroke and adore, here’s something to appease their cat cravings without compromising – in fact, positively enhancing – your home and its style. Utterly adorable, without being in the slightest twee, the MiCha lamp from French design duo Kuntzel+Deygas comes in a range of four poses, including sitting, stretching and walking (or stalking! you know what cats are like…) and are as much a design object as they are a functional bedroom accessory. Forget nightlights in cutie-pie shapes: placed by a bed, or on a desk, these animated characters will provide companionship as well as light. The head is articulated, allowing you to angle the cat’s gaze in the direction where light is needed, and best of all, for those who are perhaps iffy about the view you get when a cat stalks off with its tail held aloft … well, you may enjoy the fact that MiCha’s tail is represented by a power cable.
Made from 30 pieces of handfolded steel and aluminum, the MiCha lamp is priced at around £1600, so it’s not a lighting decision to be taken, lightly. However: no vet’s bills! And, unlike a cat that disappears for hours on end, only to return at mealtimes, MiCha will always be right where you want it, when you want to look at and enjoy it. Unless, that is, it comes alive in the dead of night and turns into real cat. And, looking at it, can’t you just imagine that happening!?
